" The client knows best, they know what is
hurting and they know how to move forward"
Counselling is different from coaching or mentoring. In counselling you are not told what to do or offered a solution, you are your own expert.
Counselling offers you time, attention and respect with the intention of helping you explore, discover and clarify ways of living more successfully and moving towards greater wellbeing.
Ideas, thoughts and feelings that others, and sometimes ourselves, disapprove of can be aired, explored and contemplated within the counselling room.
Counselling can be concerned with addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crisis, working through feelings and inner conflict or improving relationships with others.
In terms of benefits - first of all it can feel a relief just to have expressed your private thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental, confidential setting to somebody you trust.
A longer term benefit of counselling is positive change, we have a natural tendency to move towards growth and healing and through attending counselling we can begin to see ourselves more clearly, explore our own purpose in life more deeply and make more conscious choices as to the direction we wish our life to take.
We may also explore previously fearful or upsetting experiences and gradually come to terms with them as they lose their hold over us. Through counselling, as we get to know and understand ourselves better - we may become more aware of our feelings and those of others and start to live more spontaneously in the present moment.
